Can You Vape in Turkey? The 2026 Rules UK Tourists Actually Need

Yes — you can take your vape to Turkey and use it there. What Turkey has banned is selling vapes: there is no legal way to buy a device, a pod or a bottle of e-liquid anywhere in the country. That one distinction answers most of the panic you'll read in Facebook holiday groups. But there IS a strict personal import allowance, it changed in September 2024, and most UK websites are still quoting the old numbers. Here's the accurate 2026 picture.
The three verbs that matter
- Bringing your own vape in: legal, within the customs allowance below.
- Using it: legal — no Turkish law makes personal vaping an offence. Indoors it's treated exactly like smoking (fines below).
- Buying one there: effectively impossible legally. Turkey banned vape imports by presidential decision in February 2020 and has never licensed domestic production — so nothing on any shelf, in any bazaar or at any airport is legal stock. Whatever is sold under the counter is untested smuggled product.
The 2026 personal allowance (this is where everyone gets it wrong)
Turkey's Ministry of Trade allowance for passengers aged 18+ is: one electronic device that you are actually using, plus ONE of the following — not all three:

Go over the allowance and the documented consequence is milder than the horror stories: excess is held at the border and returned to you when you fly home. It's commercial-scale smuggling that carries prison time (one to five years) — a holidaymaker with an extra bottle is not in that category. We couldn't find a single documented case of a UK tourist having a personal vape confiscated at Antalya, Dalaman or Istanbul — but the allowance is real, so pack inside it.
Where you can and can't vape
Turkish law explicitly treats anything "used in a manner imitating a tobacco product" as tobacco — so your vape follows the smoking rules everywhere. Indoors in bars, cafes, restaurants, public transport and airport terminals is banned, with a fine of around 1,764 lira in 2026 (it's index-linked and rises yearly). The ban even reaches open-air stadium and concert spectator areas. Outdoors on the street, at the beach bar, on your hotel balcony: no problem. Hotels can designate smoking rooms, which cover vaping — ask at reception.
Pack like you can't restock — because you can't

The one real danger: THC and CBD carts
The Foreign Office warns that drug offences in Turkey carry 4 to 24 years in prison — including for passengers transiting through Turkish airports, whose bags are scanned. A cannabis cart and a nicotine pod look near-identical in a scanner tray. Leave anything CBD/THC at home, full stop. (Nicotine vapes, by contrast, are explicitly unrestricted for air transit passengers — changing planes at Istanbul with your normal kit is fine.)
