A "7K vape" means a device rated at roughly 7,000 puffs — and in the UK in 2026 that number describes a rechargeable pod kit, not a disposable. It sits in a useful middle ground: longer-lasting than the small kits, cheaper and more pocketable than the 30K monsters.

Where the number comes from

Puff ratings are produced under laboratory conditions using a machine that takes short, uniform draws at fixed intervals. That produces a repeatable number, which is useful for comparing devices — and misleading if you read it as a personal forecast.

Real vaping differs in three ways that all reduce the count:

• Draw length. Human draws are longer than test draws, and a longer draw uses more liquid per puff.
• Draw frequency. Chain vaping heats the coil, and a hotter coil vaporises faster.
• Power settings. On adjustable devices, more power means fewer puffs. That is a physical trade, not a defect.

The practical conclusion: treat puff ratings as a class, not a promise. 7K genuinely outlasts a small pod kit and genuinely falls short of a 30K kit. Beyond that, your habits decide.

Who a 7K device actually suits

• Moderate daily users. Enough capacity that you are not swapping pods constantly, without carrying a large device.
• People who like variety. A smaller pod means you reach the end of a flavour sooner — which is a good thing if you get bored, and a bad thing if you have found the one you love.
• People who found 30K kits too big. Capacity comes from physical size. There is no way around that.

Who should size up or down

• Size up if you are swapping pods every couple of days, or if you travel and want fewer spares in the bag. A 30K-class kit changes the rhythm completely.
• Size down if you vape lightly. A larger pod does not go stale quickly, but flavour does dull over a long life, and you will enjoy a fresher smaller pod more.

Is a 7K vape legal in the UK?

Yes, provided it is a rechargeable device with a replaceable pod. The June 2025 ban removed single-use disposables from sale — it did not limit puff counts. A 7K, 25K or 30K device is legal as long as it is not single-use, and the liquid meets UK rules: 20mg/ml maximum nicotine, 10ml maximum bottle size. What changes on 1 October 2026

The UK Vaping Products Duty starts on 1 October 2026 at 22p per ml (£2.20 per 10ml), applied to all vaping liquid regardless of nicotine strength. Devices are not taxed — liquid is. Since a 7K pod holds less liquid than a 30K pod, the duty per pod is correspondingly smaller, but the duty per millilitre is identical across every format. There is no format that avoids it.
